GROUND
Grounding is one of the basic movements we explore in Open Floor practice. The movement toward connection with earth, feeling our weight and substance, rooting ourselves; how we stand on the ground, move across it, relate to it, and how we feel that connection in our body. It is a skill that supports us to be present. It is the movement of energy downward in the body that can settle us when we’re imbalanced or over-activated physically, emotionally, mentally. Without ground it's hard to take a risk. Without ground it's difficult to start any new project. Without ground it's more challenging to go into any new relation or stay in a challenging present relation.
Grounding is contact with the earth, the edges, boundaries and limitations. We may touch the earth but be cut off from our being, cutting our vitality. Without ground, we are unstable, off balance, our health is affected and somehow we are not really here. It is a merge with gravity. Earth is the base of you body - we were never meant to live uprooted.
Tell me what gives your life roots, when do you feel most present and available? Where do you find your ground?
I am rooted, but I flow. - Virginia Woolfe
